Free full text available from www.ijccm.org A b st ra ct Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis [CVST] is often an infrequent cause of neurological dysfunction resulting in admissions in Intensive care units [ICU]. Because of its myriad presentation it may be under diagnosed. Unfractionated Heparin [UFH] has been advocated in treatment but needs frequent monitoring. We studied the clinical profile of patients of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, use of low molecular weight heparin [LMWH] with emphasis on safety in 64 patients of CVST.

Low-molecular-weight heparin in outpatient treatment of DVT.

Patients with a diagnosis of acute deep venous thrombosis have traditionally been hospitalized and treated with unfractionated heparin followed by oral anticoagulation therapy. Several clinical trials have shown that low-molecular-weight heparin is at least as safe and effective as unfractionated heparin in the treatment of uncomplicated deep venous thrombosis. The use of low-molecular-weight h...

Long-term low-molecular-weight heparin and the post-thrombotic syndrome: a systematic review.

OBJECTIVE Post-thrombotic syndrome causes considerable morbidity. The Home-LITE study showed a lower incidence of post-thrombotic syndrome and venous ulcers after 3 months of treating deep vein thrombosis with the low-molecular-weight heparin tinzaparin versus oral anticoagulation. This systematic review examined whether long-term treatment of deep vein thrombosis using low-molecular-weight hep...

Severe hypernatremic dehydration associated with cerebral venous and aortic thrombosis in the neonatal period.

Severe neonatal hypernatremia is an important electrolyte disorder that has serious effects. Cerebral venous thrombosis and aortic thrombosis are relatively rare in severe neonatal hypernatremic dehydration. The authors report a case of cerebral venous thrombosis, associated with aortic thrombosis revealed by dehydration in a 9-day-old boy. Diagnostic was performed using Doppler ultrasound and ...

Risk factors for recurrent venous thromboembolism in the European collaborative paediatric database on cerebral venous thrombosis: a multicentre cohort study

BACKGROUND The relative importance of previous diagnosis and hereditary prothrombotic risk factors for cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) in children in determining risk of a second cerebral or systemic venous thrombosis (VT), compared with other clinical, neuroimaging, and treatment variables, is unknown. METHODS We followed up the survivors of 396 consecutively enrolled patients with CVT, age...
